First of all, our most important contributors to the project are the people. They make this project come alive with sharing their stories, inviting us in and let us take part in their lifes. We are just there to record this and shape it together at the end. These are their stories, not ours, so this project is nothing without them and all our thanks are going to them for this!
But to give you a little insight into who is behind the project and talks to all those people, here we go:
Founder I Cinematographer I Photographer
Simon is a visual storyteller with his company FLOW MEDIA. He uses different forms of media to do so. He does that because he thinks it's amazing to learn about other peoples lifes. But he also thinks that there are way to many stories that get never told and that expressing them visually helps us to understand life in other parts of the world better. This is why he had the idea for HUMANS. Simon started the project with Maja, travelled from Capetown to Cairo for it and since then has taken it all over the world, exploring the lifes of different people in different countries under different living conditions.
MAJA STICKER NORDBRANDT
Co-founder I Interviewer
Maja is a doctor and married to Simon. She explores the human condition as a psychiatrist and finished her thesis right before HUMANS on refugees with Post-Traumatic-Stress-Disorder.
For HUMANS Maja made good use of her empathy and sensibility to make the interviews for the project on the first part in Africa. Maja thinks that just traveling for six months in general is sometimes boring, but that travelling with HUMANS as a project is great. In the future Maja hopes to never explore places differently again.
Video I Photography
Carrying his camera everywhere he goes, Emile is a cinematographer & photographer that is always ready to catch the unexpected story. He has travelled as a passionate hitchhiker through continental Europe several times and has been working in India since 2008.
In the beginning of 2013 Emile joined FLOW MEDIA to be able to even more tell the stories he cares about.
Carrying out the HUMANS project in India together with Emile, Sasja’s interest in the human condition as a general subject of importance and care comes into play in different fields. Working as a yoga teacher in Copenhagen while finishing the last year of her medical studies she is now and will in the future be dealing directly with different aspects of living as a human being.
Yann wrote Simon early and said he wants to participate, however and whereever we need him. And because Yann makes great movies we are more than happy to have him in the boat.
Yann is from Belgium and works freelance as a photographer and videographer, a perfect combination for the project. Yann did his first film for HUMANS in Southern France.
Stavros is a traveller at heart and a photographer by profession. He went to Rwanda and Uganda in 2011, he met up with Simon & Maja and loved the idea to bring home different stories than the usual with the concept of HUMANS. His first HUMANS story is from Uganda.
Stavros lives in Athens, Greece and from there always searches for the next chance to go abroad.
